Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9
I have been very good at reciting this specific scripture to my children if they were having trouble going to sleep because of fear…fear from something they might have seen on T.V. or movie preview or the thoughts from the complex minds of children trying to understand the world around them. Regardless of the cause of fear, the solution for them was found in God’s word – thank God!
It has been a while since I have written. I could tell you that “life got busy” or that “so much has been happening at work” – and those things would be true. Life has been busy and things have been happening at work…but that would only be part of the story. The other part, and more truthful element would be that as life got more difficult, I let go of the constructive outlets that fed me creatively. I allowed the negatives things in my life to drain me, being was in danger of becoming a shadow of my former self. For a while, it almost looked like the enemy had won…
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. – Ephesians 2:8 (NLT)
As my youngest began PreK this fall, God quietly began reminding me of the talent He instilled in me and let me know that it wasn’t okay to simply ‘let it go’. Slowly I began to feel the joy that is promised to each of us who believes. I have been listening and praying as He has been nudging me towards faithfulness in all areas of my life; being a wife, a mother and yes, even a creative. He already knows the joy I innately feel when I am expressing myself in creative ways (writing, designing, painting, etc.). Christ reminded me that my identify is found in Him, not in my circumstances. I am committed to trusting Him in this process. As a result of His continued work in me, I am returning to the things that are creative outlets for me, all without fear!
